I am away at school this weekend, and we have been focusing extensively on the key role that postural alignment plays in all of us. Postural alignment relates to how our bodies naturally position themselves in gravity, and how our muscles and connective tissue settle to make sure that we can stand, sit, and generally carry on in our lives. Often our bodies settle into patterns that are functional but not optimal for us. This can cause pain and undue stress on bones and joints as well as significant muscular imbalances and soft tissue restrictions.
The good news is that Massage Therapy can help! I am learning techniques to assess and help facilitate the structural realignment of skeletal, muscular, and fascial imbalances. Correcting these imbalances often causes intense relief for clients, especially those that have been stuck in a pattern or way of settling into their bodies for a long time. I am looking forward to helping my clients experience less pain as well as discovering new and more functional ways of being in their bodies!
