A Father’s Day Tribute to my Dad

Just in case you missed the memo, today is Father’s Day… Happy Father’s Day to all you Dad’s out there!

My Dad left this world 1.5 years ago, yet he lives in my heart and soul and his very being ekes its way into my life and work every single day. It seemed fitting and appropriate to dedicate this column to him and acknowledge his huge contribution to my passion for and commitment to being a Massage Therapist. First and foremost, Thank you Dad for giving me such a keen and targeted interest in the human body and how it works! You passed on to me your ceaseless fascination and belief in the body’s ability to “heal itself”, your quest to problem-solve the endless things that can go awry with our bodies, your practical facilitation of how to help make them as optimally functional as possible again, and your daily living proof that one can surmount and placate significant aches and pains with the right attitude of acceptance and dedication to keep living life to it’s fullest despite our physical ailments.

Thank you for starting discussions at the dinner table and throughout my massage schooling about muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other “poor connective tissues”, even for passing that on to me genetically so that I could have a vast array of personal experience from which to draw and relate to and understand my clients various orthopedic-type of problems!

Thank you, Dad, for instilling in me the drive, passion and intensity of focus necessary to successfully start and build my own massage business, to finish my Orthopedic Certification, and to work full-time and support myself doing the thing I am most passionate about, which is healing through body work. Thank you for the confidence you instilled in me to keep at it, even when challenges seemed insurmountable, and for always encouraging me to keep going after my dreams and goals, even when I was less than certain what they were.

Thank you for believing in me and my “potential”, and for helping me to strive for and finally arrive arrive at what that is! Dad, I have found my niche and I am doing it and loving it…I only wish you were here to witness how it has all come together so fabulously! Somewhere out there, I know you know, and you will hear my heartfelt thanks for how much you have inspired me and helped me become who I am. I love you, Dad!
